BASW Cymru & SWU seek political support for working conditions campaign
This week, BASW Cymru and SWU took our joint campaign - Stronger Social Work, Better Lives - which calls for a better supported and resourced social work profession, to the Senedd.
The nationwide campaign is advocating for:
- Adequate and safe staffing
- Sustainable workloads
- Proper funding and investment in social work services
- Better services through better professional development
- Recognition and respect for social work expertise
- Improved mental health and wellbeing support for practitioners
The drop-in event, sponsored by Jane Dodds MS, represented an invaluable opportunity for BASW and SWU to highlight the campaign’s importance to legislators who have the power to effect change for professionals in Wales.
A number of MSs attended throughout the day, and we shared with them your experiences and insights that you've told us through surveys and other forms of member-engagement. Thanks to your evidence, we have won support from across the political spectrum for our campaign, which opens doors for us to raise our asks with Welsh Ministers.
Our thanks to Mike Hedges MS, Peter Fox MS, Mabon Ap Gwynfor MS, Anthony Slaughter, Cefin Campbell MS, Dr Altaf Hussain MS, Paul Davies MS, Gareth Davies MS and Jane Dodds MS for speaking to us and lending us your support. We look forward to working with you all to progress this campaign over the coming months and secure vital improvements for the Welsh social work profession.
Can you help us get the message out to even more MSs? Please contact your MS to alert them to our campaign. Email our Political Affairs Lead, Kerri Prince on kerri.prince@basw.co.uk for more information.
