BASW Council, the governing body of the Association, is currently seeking applications to join the following Committees:
- Risk & Audit Committee
- Finance & Organisational Development Committee
- Recognition & Remuneration Committee

Risk & Audit Committee Members
This Committee is fundamental in supporting Council’s responsibility for determining and overseeing BASW’s strategy and performance and is charged with assuring Council that BASW is fulfilling its responsibilities to all funding and regulatory bodies.
We are looking for Committee members, who may already have experience in audit, finance, law, IT/data, or risk management; and/or Risk & Audit Committee experience in either the public or private sector, but this is an excellent CPD opportunity for those who do not currently have this knowledge and would like to develop these skills, as full training and support will be provided.
The time commitment involves four 2.5 hour scheduled meetings per year plus time involved in reading papers in preparation for the meetings. All meetings will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams. This is an unremunerated position although reasonable expenses for attendance will be paid in line with BASW’s Members Expenses Policy.
The successful candidate will serve a two-year term, renewable for up to another 2 years.
Finance & Organisational Development Committee Members
BASW needs to keep developing to ensure we are strong and effective for the future of social work. The Finance & Organisational Development Committee is chaired by the Honorary Treasurer and keeps our finances on track. It also considers and recommends developments in terms of staff, organisational structure, governance, and new initiatives. As a Committee member, you will be essential to ensuring BASW continues maintains its positive developmental progress. The Committee chair reports its recommendations to the BASW Council.
Candidates will have different levels of experience, and this is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills. You will gain experience in organisational and business development, human resources, and financial management. Training and support will be provided.
Meetings can be held up to six times per year, with dates being set a year in advance. with additional meetings as needed. All meetings will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams. This is an unremunerated position although reasonable expenses for attendance will be paid in line with BASW’s Members Expenses Policy.
The successful candidate will serve a two-year term, renewable for up to another 2 years.
Recognition & Remuneration Committee Members
The Recognition & Remuneration Committee (R&RC) is a constitutional committee responsible for advising BASW Council on the remuneration of BASW UK Directors and other BASW members. The committee ensures that all remuneration aligns with the Articles of Association, regulations, policies, legal requirements, and the BASW Code of Ethics while safeguarding the financial sustainability of the Association.
The committee also advises Council on the establishment and development of awards and other means of recognition for significant contributions to social work practice and the work of BASW. This is an opportunity for creative and innovative thinking to reward great social work involvement.
As a member of the Committee, you will contribute to upholding the rights and interests of members while ensuring fair and appropriate remuneration practices. This role provides a valuable opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain experience in organisational governance, business development, and financial management, and engage in strategic decision-making. Training and support will be provided.
Meetings are held twice a year (with additional meetings as needed), scheduled in advance. All meetings will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams. This is an unremunerated position although reasonable expenses for attendance will be paid in line with BASW’s Members Expenses Policy.
