Every year BASW UK is proud to stand together with social workers across the world to mark World Social Work Day, which this year is on Tuesday 15 March.
As the UK’s independent voice of social work, we are delighted to host a full month of activities and events to promote and celebrate our profession - and to pay tribute to social workers across the UK and the world.
Over the last year, social workers around the world have been working selflessly and tirelessly to support people and communities - all in the midst of a global pandemic. The month of March is an opportunity for us to show our gratitude to all social workers, both in the UK and globally - as well as champion our profession and the amazing work social workers do every day of the year.
World Social Work Day 2022: ‘Co-building a New Eco-Social World - Leaving No One Behind’
The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) theme for World Social Work Day 2022 is Co-building a New Eco-Social World - Leaving No One Behind. The theme reflects a vision of new global values, policies and practices that develop trust, security and confidence for all people around the world – as well as the sustainability of the planet.
World Social Work Day 2022 will be a highlight opportunity for the social work profession to engage all our networks and the community we work within to make contributions to the values and principles which enable all people to have their dignity respected through shared futures.

BASW national teams will each be leading a week of events and activities through the month of March:

Week 1: BASW Cymru will be hosting a special event on St. David’s Day, exploring the history and heritage of social work across Wales. Y Ffordd Gymraeg / the Welsh Way - The launch of BASW Cymru's Heritage Project. Tuesday, 1 March 2022 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Week 2: BASW England has several exciting events planned, across a range of themes including their 80-20 Conference: 'Inclusive Relationship-Based Practice in a Changing World' with 3 sessions throughout the day on the 8th March. On the 10th March BASW England will host a lunch time webinar focussing on the climate crisis and what it means for social work.

- World Social Work Month - BASW England 80-20 Conference 'Inclusive Relationship-Based Practice in a Changing World'. Session 3 - Creating a relationship-based practice culture within organisations. Tuesday, 8 March 2022 - 2:30pm to 3:45pm
- World Social Work Month- BASW England 'No-one Left Behind: Climate Change and Social Work (International, Local and Youth Perspectives). This session will look at the impact of climate change for social work at a local and international level. Thursday, 10 March 2022 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

Week 3: BASW Northern Ireland and IASW are co-hosting what promises to be a fascinating event – ‘Infringement of fundamental freedoms: The legacy of Brexit in Ireland’ – with special guest Daniel Holder from the Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ).
- BASW UK is hosting an event to explore this year’s theme – Co-building a New Eco-Social World - Leaving No One Behind – through a UK-wide lens. This event will take place on World Social Work Day itself (Tuesday 15 March). Details to follow.
- Week 4: SASW will be leading activities in the final week of World Social Work Month which will include a session led by the Children's Commissioner on the incorporation of UNCRC into Scottish law. More details on this and other events soon.
- BASW UK is hosting a Social Work Future. Media and public perceptions of social work, impact and change. Monday, 28 March 2022 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm.

Talk to SWU: workplace issues webinar on 29 March 2022. A chance to talk with the Social Workers Union about workplace issues. Tuesday, 29 March 2022 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

SWU essay competition
To mark World Social Work Month, the Social Workers Union (SWU) will be running an essay competition for social work students – with four winning entries receiving a £500 grant.

Amazing Social Workers
We’re delighted to announce that our Amazing Social Workers campaign, launched as part of World Social Work Month 2021, will take place again this year.
The Amazing Social Workers campaign is a unique opportunity for us to recognise and share the accomplishments of social workers across the UK.
We’ll be opening the nomination process in the very near future – everyone shortlisted as an Amazing Social Worker will have a special profile on our website.
